FAKE NEWS | SANDF Denies Claims That Members’ License Was Canceled Due To Rise Of Covid-19

The South African National Defense Force (SANDF) has denied widely publicized posts on social media that its members’ license had been canceled due to rising Covid-19 numbers during the holiday season.

According to the bogus alert, all SANDF members who are on leave are expected to report to work on Tuesday, December 29, to help police monitor Covid-19 compliance.

“Yesterday the order was given that all uniform members of the SANDF … must report on the 29th to begin preparations to support the SAPS in the streets, to minimize the spread of Covid-19,” the false alert. read.

“That is to say at 10:00 pm all civilians must be at home, all meetings, clubs, parties or entertainment areas must close before 10:00 pm.”

However, SANDF spokesman Brigadier General MPM Mgobozi has denied the allegations, saying the social media alert is false.

“The South African National Defense Force is aware of the reports that are currently circulating on social media about the cancellation of the license of members,” Mgobozi said.

He said the SANDF once again warned the public not to spread “incorrect and irresponsible” information.
