Italian Grand Prix LIVE!

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap in Formula One history to seal a dominant pole position for Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix.

Hamilton flew over the 3.54 miles of asphalt from Monza at 164.267 mph on his way to a new record at the so-called Temple of Speed.

Valtteri Bottas joins his teammate in another Mercedes front row lock, the Finn just seven hundredths behind Hamilton, with McLaren driver Carlos Sainz in a surprise third place.

On a steamy afternoon for Ferrari, Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel finished 13th and 17th. It is the first time in 36 years that both scarlet cars will start Ferrari’s home race outside of the top 10.

Hamilton takes the blame for the penalty

Lewis Hamilton says he “did not see the draw” but “will take responsibility” for his penalty.

The 35-year-old hugs the Frenchman in the press area and that’s a lovely thing to see. Gasly adds “he did an amazing job.”

Time for the podium celebrations!

French national anthem for Gasly, Italian for AlphaTauri. Tears flow for the 24-year-old and no one will be surprised by that.

An extraordinary day.

And the winner of the race, Gasly!

“It’s honestly unbelievable, I still don’t realize what’s going on. We took advantage of the red flag, we had a fast car and I’ve been through a lot in 18 months. My first podium last year was like wow. Winning here at Monza It’s hard for me to realize it. I have no words and this team has done so much for me, gave my first chance, my first pod and now my first win. It’s crazy. I can’t thank you enough. It’s just an amazing day. I’m so happy “

Carlos Sainz speaks …

“I think I was kind of disappointed with P2, I didn’t think I would have a chance to win the race. I think that’s what we deserved, but Pierre up front, I thought how they could happen. We did a good job to recover after the car from safety and the red flag. We have been fast all weekend. We have to be proud of the pace of the car. “

Lance Stroll speaks …

“I am. It’s been a couple of years so it feels good to be back. Such a crazy race. I’m so happy for Pierre. It’s a bit of a hassle as it was mine to lose at the beginning, but I had no grip.” . . I had a good fight with Carlos in the first laps, but I’m happy with the third. It’s weird to reboot, you’re not used to midway through. “

Gasly celebrates with his team euphoric and still cannot comprehend what he has accomplished today.

You have to feel sorry for Sainz, who looks devastated with his best F1 result because he wanted victory so much.

Is. This is what F1 can offer fans that no other sport can offer.

Gasly arrives on the radio …

“OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! We did it again guys! Damn hell!”

That sums up the Frenchman’s emotions. Dropped out by Red Bull in 2019, race winner in 2020.

Amazing.

FINAL ROUND

Sainz in the DRS zone!

That’s it. Will Gasly put up with McLaren?

Lap 50

Gasly keeps Sainz out of the DRS zone and there are only three laps to go! It is neck and neck in front.

One mistake could cost the Frenchman his first career victory.

Lap 47

Hamilton is in the points after passing Raikkonen for 10th. Incredible counterattack!

It is not ruled out that he finishes seventh, just two places behind his teammate.

Lap 45

Gasly needs to start looking over his shoulder because Sainz is only two seconds away from him now.

Don’t discount Lance Stroll as he’s only four seconds behind the leader.

Hamilton is now 11th and is closing in on Sergio Pérez.

Lap 41

Hamilton is now 13th after passing Albon and Russell. Then Grosjean and Latifi.

Lap 39

Hamilton is now within Albon’s DRS range at 14th, but has a long way to go to get to the points.

The good news for him is that Verstappen is out and Bottas is only in fifth place.

Lap 35

Stroll seemed to have messed up his run by exiting the chicane, but he has Raikkonen’s pace and makes the move at the second chicane.

It is in the podium places.

Lap 33

Hamilton, to no one’s surprise, is absolutely flying in 15th place. The championship leader has just set a new fastest lap.

Sainz makes a superb move on Raikkonen and returns to second place. Gasly is four seconds away … can you catch him?
