Kevin Phillips is surprised that Arsenal consider selling Ainsley Maitland-Niles and claim they would have lost a great player.
Arsenal have included the Englishman on the transfer list as they look to raise funds for their other transfer objectives.
He has been in good shape for the club and his performance against Liverpool on the Community Shield has earned him a spot on the England squad for their upcoming matches.
The Wolves have had the most interest in him since he became available for transfer with reports claiming that they have been turned down an offer for him as Arsenal hold onto the asking price.
However, Sky Sports recently claimed that the Wolves have lost interest in him because they believe Arsenal will not sell him or it will be more expensive to buy him now.
Reacting to the news, Phillips claimed that Arsenal would have lost a great player and the Wolves would have gotten a good player if the deal had been closed.
“I think it would have been a huge loss for Arsenal,” he told Football Insider.
“A great young player. An offensive winger with energy bags. The most important thing for him is his final delivery, he needs to improve but it will come.
“That would have been great business for the Wolves. They have a history of improving players. If he is going to leave Arsenal, I think Wolves would have been a good club to go to and develop with the quality players at the club.
“I never saw it coming because I thought Maitland-Niles would be at Arsenal for a long time.”
