A buzz of excitement filled the Springbok Green and Gold teams in Cape Town on Sunday as the players arrived at camp to begin their preparations for the Springbok Showdown in Newlands on Saturday.
For the World Cup winners, it was the first time they had gathered under the Springbok emblem since their Trophy Tour in November last year, and for new players and young gunmen it was a case of soaking up the scenery as they rubbed shoulders with some of your heroes for the first time in the national setting.

The teams will begin their preparations in the field on Monday after having team meetings and receiving briefings on Covid-19 security protocols on Sunday.
“It was fantastic to see the excitement on the players’ faces for this occasion when they arrived at the hotel and it certainly bodes well for a great showdown on Saturday,” said Springbok head coach and Gold team commissioner Jacques Nienaber. .
“ You could feel the excitement and camaraderie among the World Cup winning players to get back together for the first time since they lifted the Webb Ellis Cup last year, while the new players and the youngsters were in a great mood. humorous and excited to be a part of the national setting.
‘This week is going to be different for us due to the strict COVID-19 security protocols, but luckily all players have been exposed to these security guidelines in their provincial unions in recent weeks.
“It’s clear that everyone is excited to get into the swing of things when we start our training on the field on Monday.”
Teams will kick off the week’s activities with some work out in the gym on Monday morning, followed by light field sessions in the afternoon.
Rassie Erasmus, SA Rugby Director of Rugby and Commissioner of the Springbok Green team, He said it was great for the players to meet again after such a long absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“During the lockdown, Jacques and his assistant coaches kept in touch with the players through regular virtual meetings,” said Erasmus.
However, nothing beats that feeling of being back in a real team environment. Aside from the few training activities, which won’t be heavily loaded, we will also spend a lot of time aligning players from both teams to our team’s goals for the Springbok Showdown.
“Everyone is excited to be together again and we are looking forward to working with the players in preparation for Saturday’s game.”
Deon Davids and Mzwandile Stick, the respective coaches of the Gold and Green teams, will announce their teams for game day on Wednesday afternoon.
