The Red Devils continue to be frustrated by Borussia Dortmund’s firm refusal to cut their £ 108 million valuation of the player.
United’s valuation in these times of Covid is closer to £ 80 million and United Executive Vice President Ed Woodward, who is not a successful transfer negotiator, believes that the German club is determined to demand a ransom from United.
However, Woodward was successful in acquiring Donny van de Beek from Ajax for £ 40 million, a benchmark he uses to suggest that Sancho’s price is too high.
The transfer window closes on October 5 and United could now turn to Douglas Costa from Juventus or Joao Félix from Atlético de Madrid. Gareth Bale has even been mentioned, but this is unlikely to be an option that Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer will be excited about. Maybe two years ago, but not at the present time, as Bale plays with his thumbs in Madrid.
The player himself seems to be okay with all the speculation about the transfer and seems to be in favor of returning to England, some reports even suggesting that he has agreed personal terms with United.
However, if he wants to stay one more year in Dortmund, Sancho doesn’t seem too upset by that prospect either. He seems to enjoy life in the Rohr Valley.
If Dortmund don’t need the money and decide to stay with the player for another year before cashing in, they are perfectly entitled to do so.
There is certainly a game of risky politics between the clubs right now. If United really goes ahead and declares their interest in the player dead, it may not be the end of the saga.
Just the latest move to try to force the Germans to adjust their stance on the player’s immediate future.
