CAPE TOWN – Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter insists that since he took over the leadership of the company there has been no political interference.
“I really cannot complain about the lack of political support and also the flip side of political interference. I have not had any political interference from Minister Gordhan. Obviously, he is a concerned shareholder, so he will ask to be informed from time to time. “De Ruyter said.
He said that addressing the basic problem was where he started trying to repair Eskom and improve generation capacity.
“We start by tackling problems one by one. Start by holding people accountable, start by looking at the fundamentals.”
Sporadic blackouts and rising debt are just some of the problems plaguing the power company.
De Ruyter said he expected that by next September, existing power plants would produce more electricity.
Until then, he said his goal was to reduce load shedding.
