Eskom ‘working day and night’ to fix power outages as potential storms loom – the Citizen

Various network failures and storms have caused power outages in various areas of Gauteng.

Lanseria, Morningside, Muldersdrift, Paulshof, Petervale, Soweto and Zandspruit are currently experiencing a “prolonged power outage,” Eskom said in a statement.

Customers who want to log a call may have to wait a bit, as Eskom also said that due to high call volumes, it may take some time to clear the current backlog to restore supply.

However, the power company assured that the recovery teams are “working 24 hours” to repair all failures and damages.

Customers in the affected areas will receive updated information if there is any development, but are urged to “treat all power points as if they are active at all times.”

“We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and wish to assure them that we are doing everything possible to restore supply.”

After Sunday’s “beast of a storm” that hit Gauteng, more weather alerts have been issued proactively.

According to Gauteng Weather, initial forecasts suggest a high probability of heavy rain and flooding in parts of the province on Thursday.

The South African Meteorological Service (SAWS) has warned that some of the forecast storms could turn severe, accompanied by heavy hail and winds. This could potentially lead to more power outages.

Customers who wish to register a failure can report their complaints through the Eskom app, by email, by SMS to 35328, or through the 24-hour contact center at 08600 37566.

Some Twitter users took note of the energy company’s statement, but were not amused:
