Eskom issued a warning Thursday afternoon to say that the electrical system is under heavy pressure.

“Turn off all unnecessary lights, your geyser, the pool pump, and non-essential appliances,” the power company requested in a Tweet.

No mention was made of loss of charge or the probability of power outages.

Earlier on Thursday, Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter told Joburg Indaba, an annual mining event, that the positive impact of Eskom’s maintenance program would be felt in April next year, although it would not immediately eliminate the need for remove the load.

By September 2021, the risk of cuts would be significantly reduced, he said.
