South Africans faced the stage 2 load drop on Friday after Eskom experienced coal challenges hit by heavy rain at the Medupi power station.
The planned power outages were expected to end at 11 p.m. Sunday night. However, Eskom spokesman Sikonathi Mantshantsha said this has changed.
“Since Friday night, Eskom teams have returned to service four generating units at the Medupi power plant, as coal limitations have improved. Two other generation units also returned to work during the same period, while the emergency generation reserves also recovered sufficiently ”.
