JOHANNESBURG – Eskom scrapped the load cut planned for Sunday, saying there has been a sufficient recovery of emergency generation reserves.

Stage two power outages were in place for much of Saturday, and stage one power outages were scheduled for Sunday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

However, Eskom said on Sunday that there had been progress in replenishing its reserves overnight and thanked the South Africans for their understanding.

The spokesperson for the utility company Sikonathi Mantshantsha said: “While this is the case, Eskom would like to remind the public to continue to use electricity sparingly as the system is still under severe strain. We have just over 8,200 MW in planned maintenance and we have another 10,600 MW of breakdowns ”.

South Africans suffered power outages on Saturday after days of warning that the system was restricted.
