The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has detailed the extent of the rot at Eskom before parliament, including how four officials pocketed R44m as a “bonus” related to long delays in the utility’s new power plant construction program.
The SIU also uncovered the details of how several Eskom executives pocketed R100m in “commissions” related to the acquisition of a cloud computing system by the parastatal.
The shocking revelations were made by SIU’s chief advocate, Andy Mothibi, and Claudia O’Brien, its lead investigator for allegations of corruption, fraud and mismanagement in other irregularities at Eskom, during a meeting with the standing accounts committee. public.
Mothibi told MPs that the bribes were part of 39 cases of alleged corruption, fraud and extortion that have been referred to the National Tax Authority (NPA) for possible prosecution.
He said that another 32 have been referred to the Asset Confiscation Unit for asset seizures that have been identified as proceeds of crime.
