CAPE TOWN – Ernie ‘Lastig’ Solomon was buried at Hermanus today in accordance with religious and cultural rites.

A funeral for the 63-year-old man who was once the leader of the notorious gang of 28 in Hawston was held at Thusong Center.

The service was officiated by the clergy of the local New Apostolic Church, as well as Khoisan leaders.

Solomon held the title of King in the Gorinhaiqua Clan and traditional Khoisan leaders say his roots go back to their indigenous ancestors in the 18th century.

Family and friends filled the room where they paid tribute to Solomon, who led a colorful life after releasing his own original music and also appeared in documentaries.

On November 20, the 28-year-old alleged gang boss was shot and killed on Friday morning while traveling down Rondebult Road in Boksburg, Johannesburg.

The victims were inside a BMW when they were attacked by the gunmen.

At the time, police spokesman Capt. Kay Makhubele said police are searching for four suspects in connection with the shooting incident.

Solomon had moved and left Cape Town in May after escaping with his life when unknown gunmen shot him and his son Carlo outside their nightclub in Hawston. He was shot five times in the stomach and his son was admitted to intensive care.
