The Citizens also revealed that one of their defenders has aroused the interest of another club

Cape Town City has confirmed that Mamelodi Sundowns is interested in signing Kermit Erasmus.

International Bafana Bafana re-established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) during the 2019/20 season.

City President John Comitis revealed that they have had talks with the Sundowns, but are waiting for the reigning PSL champions to make an offer on the player.

“Sundowns showed interest about three weeks ago,” Comitis said. MESS.

“They spoke to me but nothing materialized since then. At the moment, we have not heard from them.”

Erasmus, who scored 13 goals in the league, played a pivotal role in helping Citizens finish sixth in the PSL standings and qualified for next season’s MTN8.

Comitis said they are open to selling out the former Orlando Pirates center forward, who helped the Buccaneers finish as runners-up in the 2015 Caf Confederation Cup.

“We have to be realistic about the value of Kermit,” said the former Ajax Cape Town president.

“If we get a realistic value for your services, we have to entertain you [the interest] because we have a plan on how to fill the void it will leave if we reach an agreement with Sundowns.

Erasmus is a seasoned player who has worked for various clubs in Europe, including the Dutch giants Feyenoord, the French teams Stade Rennais and RC Lens, and the Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal.

Comitis also confirmed that there is a foreign club interested in the Port Elizabeth-born player, while Thamsanqa Mkhize has also attracted interest from an unidentified team.

However, the seasoned manager is not prepared to lose City captain Mkhize, who has been with the club since its formation in 2016.

“[Yes]I also have an international interest in him, but so far nothing has happened. There was also interest in one of our defenders [Thami Mkhize]”, he revealed.

“We are not entertaining that, we have an armed team to challenge things.”

Mkhize, who is also a former Pirates player, has been linked to the Sundowns in the past, but City managed to retain his services.

The 32-year-old played 28 games in all competitions for the Citizens last season.
