JOHANNESBURG – The qualification process for the National Senior Certificate exams will begin on Monday.

The Department of Basic Education has designated more than 145,000 markers that will be stationed at more than 180 centers across the country.

It has been a particularly difficult academic year for both students and teachers, with the COVID-19 lockdown limiting class time and leaving students with the task of discovering online learning and homeschooling.

Over the weekend, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga unveiled new health guidelines to be followed during marking.

“The department has issued a new set of guidelines that will be used in tagging centers to create an enabling environment for markers to do their job without fear due to the COVID-19 situation,” said Elijah Mhlanga from the Department of Education.

“We know there is a lot of anxiety around the meetings, but we have done everything we can to make sure they are safe.”
