JOHANNESBURG – Ennerdale District Councilor Danny Netnow said the land issue in southern Johannesburg had reached a tipping point when communities protested possible demolitions.
Ennerdale residents have joined people from other communities in southern Lenasia and Lawley in a demonstration that began in the early hours of Monday morning.
They are angered by accusations that the city is about to evict the squatters.
Netnow said the land issue had been going on for years: “This has become a very hot political potato. People who are illegal in a land where there is no water and no electricity have fired people from the township. Han laid cables along the ground. “
