England batter Dawid malan has set a qualifying point record for batsmen in Twenty20 international cricket after breaking 173 runs in England’s 3-0 shutout against South Africa.

The 33-year-old southpaw ascended to world No. 1 in September after a relentlessly consistent period of scoring in the format and has followed up with a series man performance.

He hit a record 55 wins on Sunday before scoring an excellent 99, not just 47 balls at Newlands on Tuesday and now has 915 points in the International Cricket Council rankings.

Australian Aaron Finch held the previous record with exactly 900 points and remains third on the updated list, behind second-placed Babar Azam of Pakistan.

Malan’s performance helped England overtake Australia to take the top spot in the team standings.

The Yorkshireman has been criticized for starting slowly, but has become an integral member of Eoin Morgan’s star-studded squad.

He has played 19 T20 internationals and averages an impressive 53 runs per inning with a strike rate of nearly 150 runs per 100 balls.
