England It will fly as planned to Sri Lanka on Saturday for its two-test series after the entire touring group tested negative for coronavirus, the Cricket Council of England and Wales (ECB) said.
The squad will immediately undertake two weeks of quarantine and training in Hambantota, during which they will be evaluated every other day.
They will then travel to Galle for the first test and will also be there in a biosecure bubble.
“After testing for Covid-19 on December 30, all the participants of the Sri Lanka test tour tested negative. We will fly tomorrow (Saturday) night,” said an ECB spokesman.
The tour was originally scheduled for last March, but had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The first test is scheduled for January 14-18 and the second for January 22-26, both in Galle.
Rescheduled dates were feared following the identification of a new highly contagious virus strain.
The recent white ball series in South Africa was also cut short after a handful of positive cases at the team hotel.
