Energy expert: Eskom is not honest about load shedding

JOHANNESBURG – Energy analyst Ted Blom believes Eskom is not being honest with South Africans about reducing loads.

He says the power company implemented Stage 6 load reduction on Thursday as the grid delivered nearly 6,000 megawatts of power.

“They had declared Stage 4 load shedding on Wednesday and Thursday night, however when I got the stats after rush hour I saw that they had put out around 5,300 MW of power.

“So that’s Stage 6, it’s up to 6,000 MW, it’s level 6 because it’s over 5,000,” Blom said.

The utility is deny allegations that you are not being honest about reducing charges.

Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says Blom does not understand Eskom’s statistics.

“Ted Blom got this from the stats Eskom posts nightly, which I personally tweet, we just put all of that on one line in addition to the 4,000 MW phase 4 load shedding, we add this load reduction.

“What let me repeat again, according to the rules that Nersa provided, is called a reduction,” Mantshantsha said.
