The Zulu Royal Family has announced the death of Prince Lethukuthula Zulu, the eldest son and eldest son of King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu and Queen Sibongile MaDlamini.

In a statement, King Zwelithini’s deputy and traditional prime minister, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, said: “It is with the greatest pain and sadness that we announce the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Lethukuthula Zulu.”

According to the Daily Sun, his death may have been the result of criminal activity.

The report indicates that Zulu’s body was found by security personnel at the compound where he lived in Northwold, Johannesburg.

Several neighbors reported hearing a commotion that occurred in their apartment in the early hours of Friday morning and that a window was broken.

“The Zulu Royal Family and the Zulu nation mourn this sudden and unexpected loss,” Buthelezi said.

“Arrangements for the funeral will be announced in due course. For now, our deepest condolences and support go out to Her Majesty and the Royal Family.”

In a statement Saturday, Gauteng police said they were not at liberty to reveal or confirm the identity of the deceased.

However, they were able to confirm that an investigation file was opened for further investigation at the Honeydew Police Station following an incident on Friday where security guards discovered the body of a man at his place of residence in the residential complex Graceland at Northwold.

The guards also found the friend of the deceased sleeping in another bedroom.

“The information at this stage is still incomplete and the police are investigating the circumstances that may have led to the man’s death.

“An autopsy will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death,” said provincial spokesman Brig. Mathapelo Peters.
