- The EFF has condemned the ANC’s inability to pay staff.
- The ANC sent a letter to its staff to inform them that they will be paid late.
- The EFF encouraged all ANC employees to come to the EFF work table to seek a resource.
The EFF has lashed out at the ANC for months of “constant abuse and exploitation” of its employees after News24 reported that the ruling party’s financial troubles had again caused them to not pay their employees at Luthuli House in September.
In a letter to staff, dated September 29, ANC general manager Febe Potgieter said staff should expect to be paid late.
“On behalf of the General Treasurer, this seeks to inform all ANC staff that, sadly, September 2020 salaries will be paid after the end of the month. Salary payments will be made no later than October 9, 2020 “the letter read.
Two staff members confirmed the letter to News24, adding that they had not yet been paid on Thursday.
“We urgently request the staff to make the necessary arrangements with their banks, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused,” Potgieter said.

The EFF said this was exploitation.
This essentially constitutes unpaid work. Month after month, the public has witnessed statements from the ruling party that, without remorse or consideration, inform employees that they will be paid significantly later than the agreed dates at the end of the month.
“As EFF, we have a duty to denounce the exploitation of workers, even if it is within the boundaries of other political parties. These employees are subject to contract, have dependents and utility bills.
“The actions of the ANC put the dignity and financial integrity of its employees at risk. Therefore, we condemn the actions of the ANC as nothing less than exploitation and a violation of the financial security of employees,” the EFF said in a release. .
The EFF said it encourages all ANC employees to come to the EFF work table to seek recourse, adding that it will defend these employees from the exploitation they face.
In January this year, News24 reported that ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa had to step in and pay staff out of his own pocket after the party failed to pay staff.
The party’s financial problems occurred when an invoice for R105,000 was issued to the ANC for the trip of its officials to Zimbabwe aboard a South African Air Force plane.
