JOHANNESBURG – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) gave the Treasury seven days on Wednesday to remove former journalist Ranjeni Munusamy as political secretary to Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, and said they would approach the relevant authorities to see his removal.
The EFF issued a statement on Wednesday in response to the news that Munusamy was hired by the Treasury, and the minister tweeted a photo of Munusamy on a digital gathering platform, calling them the “MTBPS core speech writing team.”

The Treasury Department told Clement Manyathela on Wednesday 702 that “it is the prerogative of the ministry who appoints to its team in accordance with the prescriptions of the Ministerial Manual.” It was confirmed that she was hired at the Ministry of Finance as a Community Outreach Officer.
However, in a statement, the EFF said: “The economic freedom fighters scorn the appointment of Ranjeni Munusamy as political secretary to Finance Minister Tito Mboweni. Ranjeni Munusamy is a former journalist, former employee of the Friends of Jacob Zuma Trust and the recipient of inexplicable money from intelligence funds “.
The party said that state institutions were “being infiltrated by a clique of highly committed individuals.”
The statement also listed “indisputable evidence” from a State Capture Commission Investigation One witness who said Munusamy was on the payroll of an intelligence bribery fund.
At the time, Munusamy requested permission to question the witness and later said he would not, and the evidence has not been disputed. The EFF said this contributed to the confusion surrounding the ethics of his appointment to a government position.
“Since then, Munusamy has gone undercover, effectively confirming that she has received inexplicable, unaccounted and illegal money from intelligence bribery funds. For a finance minister to employ such a discredited and compromised human being for such a grave responsibility is not it is only irresponsible, but it is also reckless, dangerous and downright irrational, “the statement read.
“The EFF is aware that there are so many discredited people in the National Treasury, but the appointment of Ranjeni Munusamy is going too far. We demand that the Minister of Finance immediately suspend any contractual and employment relationship with Ranjeni Munusamy until, until now, the The allegations are strong and credible and have been clarified beyond any reasonable doubt, “added the EFF.
The party also said that the Finance Minister was an influential position in the country’s economic policies and has influence on the “orientation of entities” dependent on the Treasury.
CONTROVERSY AROUND MUNUSAMY
Munusamy was implicated by senior Hawks officer Kobus Roelofse in the state capture commission in 2019. The witness claimed that the former journalist received money to pay off the balance she owed on a car from a criminal intelligence fund.
It is alleged that an amount of R143 621.78 was transferred to a Wesbank account to settle a vehicle that was registered in Munusamy’s name in 2008. He then asked the Zondo Commission to question Roelofse.
But she later said that she no longer intended to question the witness who implicated her.
Munusamy said she was willing to testify if she called to do so.
