CAPE TOWN – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Western Cape said they would approach police and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) on Tuesday after the old South African flag was displayed in a recent protest.

Protesters took their frustrations to Parliament on Sunday to call on the government to end the attacks on farms.

However, the EFF said that the appearance of the apartheid-era flag undermines the law and injustices suffered in the past.

The EFF said that those who display flags representing the apartheid era must be held accountable.

The party is also calling for the arrest of the protest organizer and the MEC of Agriculture Ivan Meyer, who addressed the crowd.

EFF’s Wandile Kasibe said he would file a formal complaint with the police on Tuesday and also go to the SAHRC.

“The court in this country has now prohibited the use of such an extremely racist symbol and anyone found wearing such a symbol has committed a crime.”

The MEC has said Eyewitness news he did not see the flags on Sunday and would not be intimidated by the EFF, who said it incited violence.

One of the protest organizers, Valerie Byliefeld, condemned the display of the flags, saying it is not what they represent.

“The same person who should be arrested here is Mr Melama for inciting these murders of South African farmers.”
