BLOEMFONTEIN – The National Tax Authority (NPA) has confirmed that Blackhead Consulting director Edwin Sodi was one of seven defendants in the asbestos case who had attempted to bribe officials and purchase mobile phones while in custody.

They were all released on bail in Bloemfontein Magistrates Court.

NPA spokesman Sipho Ngwema revealed on Friday that steps had been taken to bribe officials.

“It is said that they entered the cells with money and started buying cell phones. The law enforcement agencies are investigating the bribery and we may have to press further charges against one of the accused suspects who are appearing here today, ”Ngwema said.

Ngwema later said that the person in question was arrested in Rosebank, Johannesburg. And that’s Sodi.
