Mesut Ozil has been excluded from the Arsenal first team for some time.
The German, who is still the top earner at the club, has been in bad shape and that has forced Mikel Arteta to fire him from his plans with the first team.
Ozil only won a retirement recently in Arsenal’s friendly match against Aston Villa before the new season.
The German has continued to claim that he is fit and ready to play, often posting that on social media, however Arteta makes the call about who starts and Edu has revealed what the German has to do to get back to the team.
The Arsenal manager revealed that the Spaniard only chooses players who have done well in training and in games and Ozil can regain his place if he impresses the former Arsenal midfielder.
He added that he knows that Ozil is a first-rate player, but what counts is individual performance.
He said via Sun Sports: “Here, we are talking, of course, about performance.
“Players with performance in training, in the game, are going to have opportunities because Mikel has already shown it.
“It’s for everyone. We know how important everyone is.
“I know how important and how great the player is when you mention Mesut, but in the end we are talking about performance here.
“If he is performing well, people are doing well, who is the best to coach the best in the game, I’m sure Mikel will select them to be on the teams to play matches or be on the bench.”
