CAPE TOWN – Eastern Cape Prime Minister Oscar Mabuyane is awaiting comments from the national government on the decision to close beaches and recreational parks during the holiday season.

The decision follows a meeting with the mayors of coastal municipalities and cities.
Mabuyane spokesman Mvusiwekhaya Sicwetsha said: “We hope that once the decision is made after our commitment to the national government, we will announce the effect of this decision and we are optimistic that our people will comply with this.”
He said they were also looking at measures related to funerals: “We are also looking at other issues we identified related to the spread of infections, including preparations for funerals leading up to the day of the funeral.”
