Eastern Cape Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Liziwe Ntshinga tested positive for Covid-19.

“The provincial commissioner received her diagnosis last weekend after voluntarily undergoing a test despite being asymptomatic,” police spokesman Brig Vish Naidoo said on Wednesday.

“At the time of the trial, Lt. Gen. Ntshinga had not experienced any illness, but decided to undergo the trial as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety, good health, and well-being of her and those around her.”

She is in self-isolation.

“Following the news of her diagnosis, the provincial commissioner released her results to the management team, staff and close contacts,” said Naidoo.

“The protocols and directives in force to contain and manage Covid-19 within the organization were implemented immediately. These included decontamination of the provincial office in Zwelitsha on Tuesday. Close contacts are being tested and quarantined if they are positive. “
