A Free State man who won a whopping R 121 million jackpot last week will retire early and help his wife complete her title.
It took just two days for the PowerBall jackpot winner to show up, but only after checking his ticket 30 times to make sure he had actually won.
The lucky winner brought his carefully checked winning ticket to the Bloemfontein office of the national lottery operator Ithuba on Friday.
The winner bought his ticket at the Belvera supermarket in Bloemspruit, Bloemfontein.
“I checked my ticket about 30 times and still couldn’t believe that I was the big winner everyone was talking about.
“When I arrived at the National Lottery office in Bloemfontein, I was excited and anxious when it was confirmed that I had indeed won the PowerBall jackpot of rand 121 million,” said the winner, who prefers to remain anonymous.
Ithuba said that the winner is not a regular PowerBall player, but he plays Daily Lotto regularly.
“I usually play Daily Lotto because it is cheaper and there are chances of winning every day. When I won some money from Daily Lotto, I decided to invest in playing PowerBall and it paid off! “
Leave the job
The winner, who is left with only a few years before retiring, has chosen to stop working immediately.
“I do not intend to continue working, I have worked long enough and I am grateful to have the opportunity to retire earlier than I expected, without worrying about finances.
“My wife, however, has been looking forward to completing her degree, and I promise to support her in that.”
When asked if he planned to donate part of his fortune in any way, the winner replied: “I am a religious man, I will certainly be donating to my church.
“Also, I have a house helper who has been working only a few days a week and a gardener who only comes in once a week. They have both been with my family for years, but I was never able to give them more work.
“Now that I can pay you more, I will employ you full time and I trust this will help you as well.”
He added: “Although I like my furniture, I am ready for new beginnings. I will buy new furniture and divide the existing one between my two employees.
“I also want to pass our family caravan to our helper. She has always liked it and I think it will make her smile. “
Following extensive financial advice from Ithuba, the new billionaire has decided to invest most of his earnings.
“The financial advice I received really opened my eyes to many possibilities that I was not aware of.
“I have decided to invest a large part of my earnings and I am happy to know that thanks to this decision, my children and grandchildren will be cared for for life.”
