Durban – Four students were rushed to hospital after a driver lost control and crashed into them outside a school in Durban on Wednesday afternoon.

The students are believed to have been heading home when the driver passed them. In a video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, the white Toyota Corolla can be seen driving up and down the road. The car turns between two points on the road and towards the end of the clip, which is believed to have been filmed by a student, the car is seen veering off the road and colliding with a group of students who were against a wall.

KwaZulu-Natal Police spokesman Brigadier Jay Naicker said the incident took place on Retreat Street, outside the school, shortly after 2pm.

Naicker said four students were injured after being hit by a vehicle and taken to hospital for treatment.

“The charges of possession of stolen property, reckless and negligent, failure to present a driver’s license, failure to report injuries after an accident are being investigated by Wentworth SAPS,” he said.

Naicker added that two men, ages 21 and 23, were arrested.

“The vehicle was stolen in the Amanzimtoti area in November last year. They will appear in court on Thursday,” he said.

KZN EMS spokesman Robert Mckenzie said that three of the children suffered minor injuries while the fourth child was seriously injured.
