DStv has launched its Explora Ultra set-top box that includes a host of new features, including built-in access to Netflix and other streaming apps.

The set-top box will be available at participating retail stores starting next week for a recommended retail price of R $ 499 for the standalone device and R $ 3,699 including installation, DStv said.

Some of the key features of the device include:

  • Built-in Wi-Fi capabilities
  • 4K Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos support;
  • Redesigned interface;
  • A new DStv remote control;
  • Integration of app-based streaming services, including Showmax and Netflix, with more third-party streaming services.

The DStv Explora Ultra is made entirely in South Africa, its housing is made from 100% recycled material and the packaging does not contain single-use plastics.

DStv said that customers will have the option to pay for their Netflix subscription on their monthly bill. Inclusion in the bill will also be available to DStv customers who want to become new Netflix subscribers.

MultiChoice Group CEO Calvo Mawela said the partnership will allow customers to access the full suite of Netflix shows.

“Changes in consumer preferences and advances in technology are driving changes in the way video entertainment services are delivered and consumed. This partnership leads to a greater variety of content, ease and convenience of subscription and payment with DStv Explora Ultra as the enabler, ”said Mawela.
