A suspected drunk driver was arrested after two cyclists were run over during a morning ride in Cape Town. One of the cyclists died from his injuries.

Bicyclists were on West Coast Road around 7:47 a.m. when the accident occurred, said police spokesman Sgt. Noloyiso Rwexana.

“A BMW collided with the two cyclists. A 38-year-old man died from his injuries and a 55-year-old man was taken to a nearby medical center,” Rwexana said.

The 28-year-old driver was arrested and faced charges of wrongful death and drunk driving.

He was expected to appear before the Atlantis Magistrates Court once charged, Rwexana said.
