“Motorists are advised to maintain a safe following distance at all times. If visibility is hampered due to heavy rain, motorists are advised to turn on their headlights and hazards, ”said Seal Maremane, spokesman for the Gauteng traffic police.

“It is important that the windshield wiper blades are in good working order before taking a trip. It is also necessary to respect the prescribed speed limit at all times and continue to avoid heavily flooded areas by making use of alternative roads, ”said Maremane.

The department said it would be on high alert with rain forecast for the next few days in Gauteng, with a specific focus on low-lying areas.
