Durban – Dozens of people flocked to Marine Drive on Tuesday to pay their last respects to suspected drug lord Simone Jasmin, who was killed last Thursday.

Known as the Queen of the South of the Wentworth community, due to the striking similarities in her life to the main character of the Mexican soap opera, Jasmin’s funeral took place at a church in Bluff, not far from where she lived.

The funeral procession that included a white-winged hearse carrying his white coffin followed by several white Land Rovers 4X4 began at his home on Marine Drive.

While only 100 people were allowed into the church, dozens of people lined the streets as the hearse, preceded by the sound of Scottish bagpipes, wound its way down the street from their home.

Dozens of police officers under surveillance.

Jasmine, who is said to be the head of the notorious Cartel gang, which has been linked to a series of shootings and murders in Wentworth, was killed Thursday by assassins guarding her home on Marine Drive.

Minutes after getting into a wiretapped taxi, a killer pulled up next to her and shot her at least six times at point-blank range.

Two bullets hit him in the chest, three in the stomach and one in the leg.

The driver who called via email fled when the gunman struck, but returned and took Jasmin to a hospital where he declared dead.

The police have launched an investigation into his murder. No one has been arrested yet.
