An entire batch of Liqui Fruit red grape juice was recalled after three consumers found “tiny glass shards” in its 330ml cans.
“The investigation into the root cause and scope of the problem is underway,” a Pioneer Foods spokesman said Sunday.
“No one has been injured, as far as we know.”
As a “precautionary measure”, the company is recalling specific manufacturing batches of 330 ml cans of Liqui Fruit red grape.
“Most of these stocks are still in warehouses and consumers have not yet purchased them, but as concern for the well-being of our consumers is paramount, we are taking all possible steps to recover these stocks quickly.”
In terms of the Consumer Protection Law, such withdrawals must be taken in conjunction with the National Consumer Commission (NCC).
Acting Consumer Commissioner Thezi Mabuza said in a statement late Saturday night that the NCC had not yet received the official recall notice, but would be monitoring the recall process.
“We urge consumers who purchased this product to stop using it immediately and return it to the retailer where they purchased it for a full refund,” he said.
