Director shot dead in Western Cape

Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schäfer has expressed shock and sadness after a teacher was shot and killed on Saturday afternoon.

According to her, Zameka Mfubesi was the principal of Umonero Wama Apile High School in Grabouw.

Details about his death were limited and police were prioritizing the investigation, Schäfer said.

“I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the school’s staff and students. Our district officials came to the school along with the counselors to see how we can support them.”

Schäfer said Mfubesi’s colleagues described her as “a dynamic director” and “a beautiful person.”

He added that the teacher’s death was a great loss to his school and the Western Cape education department.

“This has been a year where the courage and leadership of our principals and teachers has really come to the fore as they handled the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on their schools. Losing one of them in this way is heartbreaking. “said Schäfer. said.

He has asked that the privacy of the Mfubesi family be respected as they mourn his death.
