JOHANNESBURG – Presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko and the fired Gauteng Health MEC Bandile Masuku have been suspended from participating in the organizational activities of the African National Congress (ANC) pending disciplinary proceedings against them.

The ANC, in a press conference on Thursday, confirmed late-night suggestions that the two would be brought before disciplinary proceedings for their alleged involvement in the personal protective equipment (PPE) saga.

Masuku, his wife Loyiso and Diko were brought before the party’s integrity committee in July for the multi-million rand tender issued by the Department of Health to Diko’s husband.

ANC Gauteng Treasurer General Parks Tau said the PEC welcomed Prime Minister David Makhura’s decision to dismiss Masuku as MEC of Health, and urged him to act quickly to bring stability to the provincial Health Department.

He said that while Loyiso Masuku, who serves as MMC in the city of Johannesburg, can return to work, the other two, who are members of the PEC, have also been asked to refrain from participating in party affairs.

“The PEC decided that Comrade Bandile Masuku and Comrade Khusela Diko should be referred to the ANC provincial disciplinary committee. In order to protect the integrity of the ANC and the affected comrades, the PEC further decided that Comrade Bandile and Comrade Khusela they should put aside organizational activities pending the completion of the disciplinary process. “
