The health department says two more provinces recorded their first deaths.
In a statement Thursday, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced that the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in South Africa had increased to 2,605.
He also noted that the number of tests carried out continued to increase, with the total number of tests conducted to date at 95,060.
There was a big jump on the death count, with a total jump from 34 to 48, an increase of 14.
“We regret to inform the public that Covid-19-related deaths are now 48. We note that two provinces, namely Limpopo and the Eastern Cape, also recorded their first deaths.
“We convey our condolences to the families. We continue to speak loudly and appreciate our dedicated health workers who face these circumstances on a daily basis.
“We are also encouraged by the increase in the number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19,” he added.
