Following his outstanding bat performance at Newlands, he opened Dean elgar he acknowledged that being named captain of Proteas Test would be the “logical” choice.

Elgar’s bat performance and experience make him a strong candidate for the Proteas Trial captaincy.

Cricket director Graeme Smith and newly appointed national coach Victor Mpitsang have yet to select a test captain since Faf du Plessis stepped down from his position earlier this year.

Elgar, who had previously replaced Du Plessis twice as skipper, told Cricket Fanatics magazine that taking over the captaincy armband for the two-match test series against Sri Lanka would make sense.

“Without sounding arrogant or stubborn, it would make the only logical sense (to be test captain) in cricket [in] South Africa right now, “Elgar said Tuesday.

“In saying that, it is out of your control as a player, I have really tried to prepare myself from a personal point of view, but it is totally beyond my powers, but you must respect his decision.”

Elgar also revealed that the 4-day Franchise Series is the perfect warm-up for Proteas’ first test match since January, when they face Sri Lanka.

“We have some games gearing up for the Boxing Day Test and the Newlands Test that the players are excited about, we’re glad it’s happening. It’s a great opportunity to get out there and get the technique going again. There’s no better practice than hitting. in the middle order and apply yourself in the middle. Match practice is extremely important before the series against Sri Lanka. ”
