Springbok halfbacks Klerk’s Faf and Robert du Preez featured as Sale of sharks hit Harlequins 27-19 to lift the Premiership Rugby Cup on Monday.
According to the official Premiership Rugby website, it was Sale’s first major silver medal since they were crowned English champions in 2006.
The hosts started strong and took a 10-0 lead thanks to a converted try by Curtis Langdon and a penalty from Du Preez.
But the Harlequins rallied to take a 16-10 lead at halftime following James Chisholm’s try and 11 points from Marcus Smith’s start.
An additional penalty from Smith extended Quins’ lead to nine points and the writing seemed to be on the wall for Sale with 15 minutes to go.
However, Springbok blurts forward Dan du Preez went out before Brother Robert added the conversion and a penalty to push Sale 20-19 forward.
Sale then secured the result with just minutes to go when scrum-half De Klerk jumped, converted once again by Du Preez, to seal a memorable victory.
The Premiership Rugby Cup is a knockout cup competition for Premiership teams.
The Sale Sharks are currently fourth in the Premiership standings, 14 points behind leading Exeter Chiefs.
Another trophy for Faf de Klerk?
Did your attempt seal the victory for sale?
