The seasoned strategist recently left Umoya after he saved the club from relegation.

Former Orlando Pirates coach Maahier Davids joined Ernst Middendorp in Ethiopian soccer powerhouse Saint George SC.

Middendorp was recently appointed Saint George’s head coach after parting ways with Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Kaizer Chiefs.

The German tactician was fired by Amakhosi after the team lost the PSL title to Mamelodi Sundowns on the final day of the 2019/20 season.

Saint George then moved quickly to appoint Middendorp as their new coach as they prepare for the new 2020/21 season of the Ethiopian Premier League.

The 61-year-old tactician has reportedly hired Davids as his assistant at the most successful Ethiopian club, having won a record 29 league titles according to Kick off.

Davids has been out of work since leaving Cape Umoya United of the National First Division (NFD) at the end of the recent season.

The well-traveled strategist had joined Umoya in November 2019 after a brief stint at Pirates, where he worked with his older brother, Fadlu Davids.

The duo were fired by Maritzburg United in December 2018 and Maahier served as Fadlu’s assistant in the first team.

Fadlu was named first team assistant coach at Pirates and Maahier joined the club’s youth squad as coach midway through the 2018/19 season.

However, Maahier decided to leave the Buccaneers and move to Umoya in the first round of the 2019/20 campaign.

The former Ajax Cape Town academy coach took over a struggling Umoya and guided the team to an 11th spot in the NFD with the Mother City club avoiding relegation.

Davids has now been photographed with Middendorp in St. George on Tuesday and latest reports indicate that he has joined the club as an assistant coach.

Middendorp began working with Davids at the then PSL Free State Stars club in 2015 before moving to Maritzburg United along with Fadlu.

Before joining the Stars, Maahier served as Ajax’s reserve team coach and worked with current PSL players Rivaldo Coetzee, Yagan Sasman, Hashim Domingo and many others at the club.
