Danny Murphy has said Drive on talkSPORT (12/11/20 at 4:40 pm) that Liverpool should ‘seriously consider’ playing with Jordan Henderson as center-back.
Liverpool fans would have wondered why he is going against them this season when news broke about Joe Gomez’s injury on Wednesday.
It’s a body shot for the champions England and now means their first-choice center-back duo Gomez and Virgil van Dijk will not play again this season.
Following the news of Gomez’s injury, Murphy shared his thoughts on who would play at the rear, as he suggested Liverpool’s £ 20 million. [BBC Sport] combative midfielder.
“I actually think that even though they have a couple of young guys that we’ve seen do well when they came in, I also think Henderson can play there,” Murphy said.
“I really do! I think he would be really comfortable there because he’s a physical presence, fast, he’s not stupid and erratic with his tackles.
“He’s not somebody in midfield going around getting silly red cards or taking chances. He is controlled and is a leader. And he’s disciplined enough to play there. I would seriously consider playing Henderson there. Depending on the opposition and depending on how big the game was “
Klopp’s remaining options now are Joel Matip, who is his only senior center-back at the club, and the academy duo Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips; Fabinho has also played at the heart of the club’s defense this season.
The good thing about the two youngsters is that Klopp has been playing them in the Premier League and Champions League respectively in recent weeks and they have both impressed.
So a little more will be needed now, and at least from Liverpool’s perspective, those two are not coming from the cold and they’ve been warming up because the pressure on them has just increased a bit due to Gomez’s injury.
