The roof of a Global gas station collapsed due to a severe storm that hit Sharpville, Vereeniging, on Friday afternoon. In videos that have been circulating on social media, the side of the collapsed roof can be seen resting on taxis and trucks.
Gasoline attendants rush to the scene to help, though they can’t do much to improve the situation.
According to ER24, two men suffered minor injuries.
“At approximately 1:50 pm, ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the roof of a gas station had collapsed onto a small bus, a taxi and a light motor vehicle. Drivers and passengers had taken refuge in the nearby store.
“Doctors evaluated the patients and found that two men, believed to be in their 20s and 30s, had only suffered minor injuries. Fortunately, no serious injuries or deaths were found, ”ER24 said in a statement.
Heavy rains and hail are believed to have contributed to the cause of the collapse. Local authorities were on the scene to conduct further investigations.

The South African Meteorological Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, which can be expected in Gauteng on Friday afternoon.
SAWS confirmed that scattered rains would occur in the southern regions of Gauteng, namely Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark and their surroundings.
Isolated showers are expected in the northern parts of the province, including Bronkhorstspruit, Centurion, Pretoria, Midrand and other areas.
The weather can linger for the rest of the weekend.
The Northwest Province, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal are also likely to experience thunderstorms.
The weather also warned that showers could bring with them the possibility of localized flooding in low-lying areas and the risk of damage to cars on the roads, as well as critical infrastructure.
This could cause damage to both informal and formal settlements, houses, and commercial structures.
“Localized flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges is expected. Minor vehicle accidents are expected due to reduced visibility and slippery roads and disruption of peak morning traffic. “
