Cape Town: The weekly update of dam levels in the Western Cape has shown that the dams that supply water to Cape Town are combined by 53.9%, while the average level of dams in the Western Cape is 36.4%.

Compared to last year, the levels of dams for Cape Town were 45.3% and the average level of dams for the Western Cape in 2019 was 33.5%.

Anton Bredell, MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning in the Western Cape, said the winter weather outlook remains largely unpredictable.

“Our main concerns at this time remain the central Karoo region and the upper regions of the west coast. My department is in constant communication with the South African Weather Services regarding the prospects for the winter season. Predictability remains largely uncertain at this stage. “

Bredell has urged the public to continue to use water responsibly.

“The municipalities received 300 water tanks to help vulnerable communities during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, existing contingencies, including wells, continue to operate in the most exposed communities. This has been the case for the past five years, “he said.
