The Democratic Alliance (DA) has brought criminal charges against Mbuyiseni Ndlozi of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for inciting arson.
Chief District Attorney Natasha Mazzone said the charges were filed Thursday after a song the District Attorney claims the EFF deputy sang in Senekal which the District Attorney says translates to “call firefighters, burn these boers. “
“These statements are not only incredibly hateful, they are also a call to incite fire, violence and anarchy on the part of Ndlozi and his fellow quasi-revolutionaries at the EFF,” Mazzone said.
“The district attorney strongly condemns Ndlozi’s statements. Not only are they indicative of his vile disregard for the safety of rural communities and their lives, it is also indicative of his and his party’s utter disregard for democracy, the rule of law, and private property rights.
“Thousands of hectares of land have been burned and destroyed in the Free State, and while the cause of these fires is still unknown, we do know that a politician sang songs calling for ‘the firemen’ to ‘burn these boers’ and that this it was followed by large-scale destruction. “
According to Mazzone, the Red Berets “are known instigators of violence and destruction” who “would rather see the country burn in pursuit of their narrow political interests.”
“The district attorney will not stand by and see how fascist and racist thugs like the EFF ignore the laws that govern our country. Unlike the EFF, the DA is a party of rules, laws, constitutionalism and democracy, “said Mazzone.
Mazzone said the party had also filed a complaint with Parliament’s Ethics Committee and referred Ndlozi’s alleged statements “to the South African Human Rights Commission to investigate the words of these songs and declare them hate speech.”
“It is time for Parliament, Chapter 9 institutions and law enforcement agencies to show their teeth and take action against the vandalism and violence demonstrated by the EFF. These institutions should be at the forefront of research and protecting our democracy, they simply cannot hide in the shadows.
“As the EFF attempts to lead the country into further chaos through racial vitriol, the DA will stand firm as the rational, peace-loving center that will continue to fight for the strengthening of our democracy.”
