The national command council at Covid-19 met on Wednesday, where it could make the advance announcement on the relaxation of the country’s national blockade regulations to level 3.
The meeting, chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa, was expected to deal with moving to level 3, two weeks after moving to level 4.
Presidential spokesman Khusela Diko said this morning that the command council would also deal with a report by health minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize.
“The [council] it is the cabinet coordinating structure on national disaster state management. Today’s meeting will receive and discuss a health update from Health Minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize, focusing on case management and the progress made in detection, tracking and testing, “Diko posted on social media.
“The NCCC will also consider a NatJoints report on the implementation of the risk-adjusted strategy,” he said.
The pressure on Ramaphosa is mounting to target the nation and open up the economy. Calls have been received from companies, opposition parties and the Cosatu union federation, a partner in the ANC alliance.
Cosatu says that restrictions on the number of people in workplaces at level 4 make it unfeasible for some companies to operate. He does not believe that the distribution of food parcels and the heavy infrastructure of the FIU is sustainable.
