Customers spoke, Toyota listened: Corolla Hatch gets even more spec updates

[ad_1]

• Toyota has gotten its Corolla Hatch with a “product update.”

• The Corolla Hatch Xr derivative has been fixed with cosmetic and infotainment changes.

• 18-inch wheels are now available, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

Since the Run-X, Toyota hasn’t had a Corolla-based hatch that garnered so much attention.

Launched in 2019, the Corolla Hatch received praise from the automotive press, while at the same time taking a slice of the pie on the sales charts.

A year later, the Japanese company has instituted a product update. This comes after it added its Safety Sense active safety suite to the flagship Xr. Toyota says that “the product improvements are in line with market requests.”

18 inch wheels

A small visual change on the Xr is the additional 18-inch alloy wheels. Toyota gets lyrical about ‘these promote an even sportier stance and heighten the visual drama’ but they just look great. The wheels are shod with 225/40 / R18 tires.

Strong infotainment game

Incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality in this part of the segment is a must. Buyers in this segment want the ease of using their mobile phone throughout the car and the installation of a new generation infotainment system in all areas allows it.

Toyota says users can duplicate their mobile phone applications for seamless connectivity, while providing improved telephony and messaging interfaces “on the go.”

Navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze are included natively.

Safety is paramount

Earlier this year, the Xr was equipped with the Safety Sense system that includes blind spot monitoring. The company has now expanded the functions to include Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). In essence, it alerts the driver through sound during a docking scenario in an alley where passing vehicles or obstacles may be out of visual range.

Increased color options

The color gamut has been expanded with Graphite Gray and Caribbean Blue added to the monotonous list, while a new iridescent red (Fierce Red) replaces the metallic Scarlet.

Engine range

There has been no change in engine choice, with the 1.2-liter turbocharged with 85kW and 185Nm standing still. Toyota claims an average fuel consumption of 6.3 liters per 100 km for manual transmission models and 6.4 liters per 100 km for CVT-equipped versions.

Gearbox options are a six-speed manual transmission or a ’10-speed ‘Shiftmatic CVT transmission.
