JOHANNESBURG – Cricket South Africa’s interim board suspended the agency’s acting chief executive, Kugandrie Govender.
The news was confirmed Monday with a suspension notice from CSA and a disciplinary hearing relating to allegations of misconduct by Govender while serving as CSA’s chief commercial officer and while serving as chief executive officer.
His hearing will take place on January 28, 2021, when Govender is allowed to respond to the charges brought against him. In the meantime, you will continue to receive full payment until the matter is decided.
The charges brought against Govender relate to:
(i) the role it played in the revocation of the media accreditation of certain journalists in December 2019;
(ii) various infractions of the provisions of the Capital Companies Act as a prescribed CSA official; and
(iii) the role it played in the firing of Clive Eksteen, which CSA has now recognized (in terms of a settlement agreement with Eksteen) was an unfair dismissal.
The interim board adds in a statement that, “to ensure that CSA remains fully functional during this time, the interim board has arranged for the appointment of a person capable of an audit firm to withstand non-compliance until early January 2021.
The executive management team is led by CSA CFO Pholetsi Moseki, effective immediately. He has agreed to take on this position in the short term and we look forward to working with him. The IB President also addressed the CSA staff this afternoon to address any concerns they may have and assure them of the full support of the IB. “
