Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed the removal of Omphile Ramela of its recently established interim board.

The acting chairman of the board, Judge Zak Yacoob, told the media during a virtual press conference last week that Ramela was facing possible expulsion from the board that was chosen by Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa..

Yacoob alleged that Ramela, who was the South African Cricket Players Association (SACA) representative on the board, was “obstructive” and “refused to accept the decisions of the majority.”

“Ramela has generally been an obstruction in relation to the affairs of the board,” Yacoob said at the time.

“He generally defended the indefensible and refused to accept the majority. It seems to make a distinction between the right thing and the majority decisions.

“And if you feel the majority’s decisions are wrong, then you can keep fighting for them for hours on end,” he continued.

“He does not have the discipline to accept the decisions of the majority. He has been an obstacle in relation to every difficult decision that we have had to make.

“It has virtually [been] impossible to deal with. These obstruction tactics reduced the possibility that the board would finish our work, “Yacoob said.

In a press release sent to the media Tuesday afternoon, CSA confirmed that the process to remove Ramela had been carried out and that “IIt was not an easy decision, but the IB had no choice but to make it. “
