Listed private learning group AdvTech on Monday reported a 13% increase in revenue for the six months ending June 2020 to R2.829 billion, as it launched its online school, Evolve, in the period under review.

Two low-performing schools, Trinityhouse North Riding and Trinityhouse Palm Lakes, will be closed at the end of the year, affecting about 200 students, he said.

AdvTech said its tertiary division maintained its performance with strong enrollments in early 2020, achieving student growth of 13%. Revenues increased 14% to R1,187 billion, and operating profit, which was affected by a higher level of provision for doubtful debtors, increased 3% to R252 million.

The group said that its resources division’s revenue fell by 21% to R99 million, as a result of the hiring stoppage in the second quarter.

“To mitigate the impact of lower revenues and minimize operating loss, strategies were implemented to reduce costs, which, sadly, included pay cuts, temporary layoffs and staff reductions.

“The cuts were rolled out across the board gradually to lessen the impact on lower-income employees,” he said.
