COVID-19: Who should get the vaccine first?

JOHANNESBURG – Healthcare workers should be given top priority when the COVID-19 vaccine reaches South Africa, according to Professor Adrian Puren of the National Institute of Communicable Diseases.

Professor Puren said that the second wave of COVID-19 will give a clearer picture of who will need the vaccine the most.

“The priority list in terms of who should be vaccinated, I think: healthcare workers. I think it’s a high priority given the nature of the task and the healthcare system, they really would be the key population to focus on. most vulnerable groups in terms of the elderly group ”, he said.
