Covid-19 update: cases worldwide now exceed 25.2 million

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has announced that the country has registered 1,985 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 627,041.
South Africa has also recorded 121 more deaths from Covid-19: one from KwaZulu-Natal, 20 from Gauteng, 20 from the Eastern Cape, 24 from the Western Cape, 8 from the North West, 16 from the Free State, 23 from Limpopo and 9 from the Northern Cape. . This brings the total number of deaths from Covid-19 to 14,149.

So far 3,693,721 tests have been conducted in South Africa.

After initially failing to appear before the Zondo commission last week, Sandy Thomas, who is Nomvula Mokonyane’s former minister for water and environmental affairs, gave her testimony regarding Bosasa.

This comes after Mokonyane last month denied claims that he received bribes from Bosasa.

According to Thomas, he has worked for Mokonyane for 20 years and currently works at the House of Chief Albert Luthuli, which is the headquarters of the African National Congress (ANC).

A faction within the Limpopo ANC, allegedly leads a campaign to overthrow President Cyril Ramaphosa before his term ends, leading Ramaphosa’s political supporters in the province to square, saying that those who want to impeach him should lead (the Fight). Ramaphosa was born in Chiawelo, Soweto, but his ancestral roots are supposedly to be found in the Madombidzha village in Venda, Limpopo.

The trial for police assault on Malema and Ndlozi will begin in October

The trial against the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, and the assault case of party spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, will begin on October 13 in court, the lobby group AfriForum confirmed.

The two are accused of allegedly assaulting a police officer at the funeral of fighting icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in 2018, while the incident was captured on closed-circuit television cameras.

The Springboks could lose the Rugby Championship this year as SA Rugby would be considering switching to a new Eight Nations competition in Europe.

Initially, the Eight Nations series was expected to include all the annual Six Nations teams: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales, along with Fiji and Japan.

Japan withdrew last week, however, before the tournament’s scheduled start on November 14.
